What is the best antioxidant supplement – maximum benefits!
Antioxidants! It seems we hear about them constantly, with good reason. I’m going to explain about oxidation and antioxidants and exactly how beneficial antioxidants are to your body, youth and vitality! Once I explain all about why you need antioxidants, I will give you some choices of ways you can incorporate them into your daily living and give you the answer to the question: What is the best antioxidant supplement? I can’t stress enough the need for antioxidants for your fountain of youth lifestyle.
What is oxidation?
Reduction is the process of gaining one or more electrons. When there is an oxidation-reduction, (which is commonly known as a redox), what happens is that one atom actually steals electrons from another atom! Think about how a shiny piece of metal gets rust, or how a beautiful yellow banana turns brown. During the oxidation process in metal, for example, the oxygen steals electrons from the metal.
Is this something you want happening to your body? Absolutely not! Oxidation creates free radicals. Free radicals cause horrible damage to the body, which I will explain next. (Are you beginning to you see how preventing (ANTI) oxidation is key to maintaining your health?
What are “free radicals”?
Free radicals are unstable atoms. Remember how I explained above how the “redox” process is when the atoms steal electrons from other atoms? Well, this leaves unstable atoms called free radicals traveling through your system wreaking havoc on your body and aging you rapidly. Below is a partial list of conditions and diseases caused by these dangerous free radicals.
What do free radicals do to the body?
Free radicals do what you would expect from a free “radical!” These extremely unstable atoms, these free radicals, go through your body looking for other atoms or molecules to bond to. This is the beginning of what is called oxidative stress. This oxidative stress causes the body to age rapidly, something none of us want, and it can also cause horrible chronic life-destroying problems like:
- Cancer
- Tissue damage and decomposition
- Heart disease, stroke
- Arthritis
- Macular Degeneration
- Lupus
- Ulcers
- Alcoholism
Antioxidants safely interact with the free radicals to prevent them from causing this kind of damage to your important, healthy molecules.

Hi Babs,
Another great article.
Again, I’ve heard lots about antioxidants and I’ve always associated them with tea… I have to admit, I think that is from a TV ad haha. Even though, I’ve heard of it before, I never really understood what antioxidants do for your health, or about the oxidation process for that matter. It’s great to read such an informative article!
Cheers again,
Shane
This is exactly what I was looking for. I am a big health geek. I am always watching my health and weight. I always make sure to workout regularly and keep my diet in place (even though sometimes i cheat it lol).
But I was at the gym and the trainers was talking about all the great benefits antioxidant supplements does for your body. So I went to the GNC looking for vitamins but they didn’t have any in stock and that is why I am so glad that I came across this article. Exactly what I needed. Where is the best place to buy this product. Great article, very helpful.
Hi Babs,
I have been researching about antioxidants, I found that grape seed is also good antioxidants? What do you think? There is even grape seed oil… I eat blueberries and drink green tea , but do you think taking supplements will have better absorption? like what you have recommended, drop some drops of antioxidants in our drink, I love the idea and will look into it!
Yes I have been researching grape seed extract, and I am going to be doing some content in that regard.
I have heard so much about antioxidants, but I really didn’t understand what it meant for my body, so thank you for explaining that in layman’s terms. I have never been much of tea drinker as I just can’t get over the taste. Is there a way to sweeten tea so that it will be tolerable for me? Or does sweetening the tea defeat the purpose?
I am definitely interested in trying the fruit extract since I can just add that too water. I drink a decent amount of water, but more would probably be beneficial, especially since I live in the desert. Thanks for sharing this article and your expertise, I appreciate it.
Hi Babs,
your site has a lot of useful informations for preserving a good health. I eat spinach and it really helps for detoxing. Green tea is also my favourite, keeps my mind fresh and my body full of energy. I read somewhere that Goji berries are great antioxidants, my sister uses a Goji cream for her skin and she says it helps a lot. Also, the price is not to high for the quality of that product.
I never used that or ate, I saw that there are some dried Goji Berries in the store and they looked interesting. Maybe I’ll try them after all.
Thanks once again,
Strahinja
Great explanation of what oxidation is and how it negatively effects the body. I haven’t previously read such a concise and clear explanation. I am happy to see that several of the foods that are high in anti-oxidants are a regular part of my diet, that is green tea, berries and spinach. I am not keen on taking a lot of prepared concoctions to obtain medical benefits, but your fruit extract solution sounds like a fairly natural way to get the benefits in a concentrated package.
Thanks for your clear presentation.
Best regards,
Joe
Hi Babs,
Thanks for this insightful and informative article on antioxidant. And that’s a pretty good review on Antioxidant Fruit Extracts where we can get instant antioxidant and mix it with a glass of water. I appreciate how you provide us with the lists of where we can get antioxidant from and I did learn from that and will definitely try and integrate this into my daily diet plan.
Great post and good info.
Antioxidants can be found everywhere, but the majority is in supplement pills.
I am a long time in the bodybuilding and fitness world so I know these things.
I take Antioxidants in the form of berries, for me it works the best.
However, the examples you give are very good ones as well.
Anyway, thanks for sharing it!
I am someone who can’t really tolerate after taste when it comes to medications and so I like the idea of the antioxidants fruit extracts that you can just squirt into a glass of water and have no added sugar or calories! You can flavor your water with it and makes drinking water more enjoyable. Wow and it gives you more energy too? I’m all in with that! I’m a big green tea fan too so the Green Tea Antioxidant extract is big hit to me too! Your post was very helpful and informative! Thank you Babs!
You are very welcome!
I found this very helpful as i always try to keep my weight in line, and the antioxidants are really important for my diet!
My only problem was always understand how oxidants work!
Would love more posts about this and other products, but loved the idea as i always struggled with tea!
You give a very clear and easy to understand explanation of antioxidants. The process of loosing and gaining an electron is called oxidation. This process can damage tissue and cause diseases. This happens on a molecular level. The more oxidation occurs in your body, the more chances of damage. Very informative and inspiring article to eat right for good health. Thanks
Yes, indeed! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Hi Babs,
I really enjoyed this read and although i’m a bit of a health nut I have never read or done any research on Antioxidants. Now that I am all educated, they are something that I am really interested in. I can be very flexible with any products that I believe can help me to continue or even improve living my life to the fullest.
This article has put on a new path in my search for better health so I thank you very much. I’m going to bookmark this page and looking forward to coming back here soon.

I want to try the antioxidant fruit extract every time I drink water. I have used the mio brand water drops only to find out they are loaded with sugar and caffeine which can’t be good for my long term health.
Do these antioxidant extracts have immediate effects once I drink them?
You will immediately stop the havoc being put onto your system from free radicals when you consume antioxidant foods and drinks. That’s going to make you feel great. I get a boost of energy when I drink them. Try them out. They are delicious, no sugar, no additives, and nutrition. Can’t go wrong!
First off, BEAUTIFUL website! And booooo to oxidation! I’m going to look up that fruit extract you recommended. I love berries but don’t eat enough of them. I’ve upped my dose of vitamins these last few years and a fruit extract would be much welcomed to the club. I adore green tea ( I love tea in general :)). I was actually sipping some Earl Grey when I was checking out your website. Green tea is so soothing and I always add just a teaspoon of local honey for sweetness. You have beautiful skin. What do you use as far as face creams/serums?
You win my favorite reader award! LOL. Thank you for such a sweet compliment. I take care of myself, eating right, exercising, and as for face creams, I love the Vitamin C creams especially. I wrote an article all about them, and you can read about them here: WHAT IS THE BEST VITAMIN C FOR THE FACE?
I really think that this article is very helpful and informative. We live in such stressful time and I must say that food is my number 1 problem. I heard that some antioxidants are great for body detox and weight loss but I will certainly try a product that you recommend, it looks very promising.
Thank you for this amazing article on antioxidants and free radicals , I never knew how much of an effect they had on your body. After reading your article, I will for sure be picking up some. Thank you for the informative article keep up the good work. I was wondering if you could tell me if antioxidants help with fighting cancer?
Antioxidants fight cancer for sure and should be a part of your daily diet always.
Great post, Babs, on this very popular and often confusing topic.
You bring great clarity to this important medical concept. Like you, we’d all like to find “the fountain of youth”.
You break it down into an easy to read and understand post. The many examples of foods you provide us with, that contain high levels of antioxidants and the supplements available on the market, seal the deal for me.
The list of diseases and the havoc they create in our bodies should not be ignored. I drink lots of green tea but you got my eye on the fruit extract water enhancer. Sounds like a great summer drink.
Paul
Hi Babs,
Your article has been very educative and helpful reading. I have heard about Ant-Oxidants and know that they are good. But I have never thought about the order side, that is having too much oxidation in the body and it’s side effect on the body’s health.
Your explanation on Redox was easy to understand. I never knew that oxygen in the body can sometimes steel electrons from the body causing free radicals which in turn lead to weak immune system and other disease attacks.
I no see the need to get Anti-Oxidants all the time. I know about green tea and it Ant-Oxidant properties, But never thought about Spinach and Berries. Thanks so much for sharing this useful article with us.
I’m now going to focus my attention on getting some anti-oxidants in my body all the time.
Stephen.
I want to thank you, Stephen, because comments like yours make me realize why I am doing this website in the first place. I love helping people, and nutrition is my thing. My kids get sick of hearing it from me, so I’m so thankful I can teach people about this and have it be appreciated! LOL! Thanks!
Hey Babs,
I didn’t know that antioxidants were so important and could prevent so many ailments.
I am actually drinking green tea daily, I am eating spinach once a week and I am drinking orange + pomegranate juice thrice a week.
Do you think that I still need a supplement for an extra boost or I am ok?
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Xaric
You would need a serious calendar and a list of nutrients and food to be sure to get every vitamin and mineral your body needs on a daily basis. While I am a big proponent of eating close to the earth and getting your nutrients from your food, I am just as big a supporter of supplementing to be sure. Why not? Supplements are well worth the money to be sure your cells are happy and fighting off cancer. – Babs
