We all know the things, the habits, we need to change if we really do want to live a better lifestyle. Making those changes can be a challenge, and this article will uncover various “tips and tricks” so you have the tools to provide you an answer to the question, “How to make a change.”
Without these changes, we cannot truly reach the height of healthy living. Healthy living means that you don’t have those horrible aches and pains, that disturbing ring of fat around your middle that embarrasses you and makes it hard to find attractive clothing, or that depression and lack of energy that comes from an unhealthy lifestyle. Healthy living means a youthful glow to your cheeks, a bounce to your step, and a genuine inner peace and happiness that accompanies it all!
So let’s dig into these life-changing ideas to give you some motivation to get a few of your habits corrected. Remember, we work on these things one step at a time! One step ensures that you have really got a new healthy “habit” under your belt. We want these healthy changes to stick, to become part of who you are and what you do!
Pick your habit
Let’s start small, shall we? I don’t want your first change to be quitting smoking. Of course, quitting smoking is always to be at the top of your priority list, and we will address this in future articles, but for now, let’s stick to one of your bad habits you need to stop doing, or a new good habit you want to get into.
I will use the example of getting more exercise for illustration purposes. Take some time to really think about a healthy habit you would like to add or an unhealthy habit you want to stop doing. It is a little easier to add a new habit than to remove a habit, so for the first exercise, it might be wise to add a habit so you can get some success under your belt to motivate you to continue on this path.
So in the example I’m using of making the change of getting more exercise. Everyone’s New Year’s Resolution! That’s because everyone really knows that exercise is so key to good health, and very few of us get enough of it. So, let’s say you want to add exercise to your regime.
What if you have no time?
I typically hear, “I know I need to exercise, but with all I have going on, I just don’t have enough time!” I understand. We are all very busy, and the thought of driving to a gym, going inside, doing a half hour of exercise, driving home and changing is just too much to include. It’s not even possible. OK, so is that the only form of exercise there is? No, of course not! We have a lot of choices.
Start small. If you want to add exercise to your regime, then just DO IT! What if you got up about 15 minutes earlier in the morning? Would that really disrupt your sleep pattern? No, it wouldn’t. Now you have 15 minutes that you didn’t have before that you can dedicate to exercise.
Honestly, if you have a strong desire to do something, you really will find the time to do it. If you have an hour lunch break, what if you spent 15 minutes of that doing exercise? You would still have 45 minutes to consume your lunch. Not only is the exercise good for you, but you can walk off some of that lunch you consumed.
Do you ever sit in your car and wait for somebody on a regular basis? I realize not all situations would allow for this, but if you have to wait anyway, why not exercise while you’re waiting? Park the car and take a 15-minute walk.
Are you getting the idea?
What type of exercise can I do in 15 minutes?
So let’s say you’ve carved out that 15 minutes. Yes! Now, the question arises, what can I do in 15 minutes? Well, actually, you can do quite a lot!
As I mentioned above, why not take a walk? If you added a 15-minute brisk walk to your daily regimen, you would be absolutely amazed at the results. Once you get in that habit of taking that walk daily, you could bring hand weights with you on a few of those days and give your arms a great upper body workout as well, all during that same 15 minutes!
Dance! Turn on your favorite music and just go for it! It’s fun, fantastic aerobic exercise, and an amazing muscle workout. It hits everything!
No in the mood to dance? Why not do yoga exercises? If you don’t have an outdoor area, you could do yoga inside your home. That would be a fantastic way to start your day! Mix it up! Yoga one day, a brisk walk the next and dancing after that!
You could also run or march in place. You can get a great exercise and get your heart rate up if as you march you lift your hands over your head. You might use the hand weights to accompany this exercise as well to work out your entire body.
I could go on and on and on with what you can do in 15 minutes. Walking is by far my exercise of choice. It’s low impact, usually pretty entertaining and interesting, and it will reap you great benefits! Add some arm weights and lift those arms for an upper body workout.
Think positive! Be positive! You can do this! You can pick one small change and just do it! You’re reading this article for a reason. There is something in your life that you very much want to change. There is something you should be doing and you know it. There may be something you’re doing that you know is not good for you and you want to stop it.
Change takes time, but don’t put it off! Start now. Take one needed change and just do it. Start slowly, and who knows, you might feel so great you’ll “find” another 15 minutes for a full half hour workout daily.
Once you fully master your new change, then pick another one. One step at a time. This is the new you! Your Fountain of Youth Lifestyle awaits! Get started!
